ORDINANCE NO. 206 <br />AN ORDINANCE OF. THE CITY OI <br />NEWPORT BEACH REGULATIN( <br />T$E LOADING. AND UNLOADIN( <br />OF PERSONS AND ENPRES' <br />PACKAGES UPON AND FROA <br />AUTOMOBILE BUSSES WITIM <br />THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH <br />The Board of Trustees of the tit; <br />of Newport Beach do ordain as fol <br />lows: <br />SECTION 1. <br />For the purposes of this ordinance <br />an antomobile bus is defined as and <br />declared to be any motor driven bus <br />operated upon, along, or over any <br />public street, highway, or alley with- <br />in the city of Newport Beach for the <br />transportation of persons or ex- <br />press packages for compensation;, <br />whether the compensation be paid di- <br />really by the person transported, or <br />the antomobile bus leased, rented, or <br />chartered by the person or persons <br />transported, or by any other person <br />for the pnrppse, of having such per- <br />sons frenspo7t d for a special trip or <br />on a special occasion; <br />SECTION 2. <br />It shall be unlawful and constitute <br />a miedemanor for any person, either <br />as owner, or as driver, operator, a <br />gent, servant or employee of another, <br />to stop, park, or leave standing any <br />antomobile bus in any public street <br />highway, alley or other public place <br />within the city of Newport Beach, or <br />to take upon or discharge from any <br />antomobile bus any person or ex- <br />press package while such antomobile <br />bus is stopped, parked, or standing in <br />or upon any public street, highway, <br />alley or other public place in the city <br />of Newport Beeach at the end of the <br />ronte or trip of such automobile bns. <br />The provisions of this ordinance <br />shall . not be, construed as prohibit- <br />' ing the stopping an automobile bus <br />at street corners along the street or <br />highway over which it is being oper- <br />ated before it arrives at or after it <br />departs from the end of the route or <br />'trip, for the purpose of receiving and <br />discharging passengers and express <br />packages for such a length of time as <br />is reasonably necessary for the safety <br />of passengers being received and dis- <br />charged upon and from -uch antomo- <br />bile bus; nor shall it be construed as <br />prohibiting the stopping of an anto- <br />mobile bus when actually engaged in <br />transporting United States mail in a <br />public street near a United States <br />postoffice for such a length of time <br />as is reasonably necessary to receive <br />and deliver mail. <br />SECTION 3. <br />Any person who shall commit any <br />of the acts declared by this ordi- <br />nance to be unlawfnl and constitute` <br />a misdemeanor, shall upon convic- <br />tion thereof in a court of competent <br />Jurisdiction be punished by a fine not <br />exceeding $100.00, or imprisonment <br />not exceeding ninety days, or by both <br />such fine and imprisonment. <br />iSECTION 4. <br />The above and foregoing ordinance. <br />shall be printed and pnblished once <br />in NEWPORT NEWS, a newspaper <br />of general circulation printed, Pon-. <br />� lished and circulated in the city of <br />Newport Beach, and shall take effect <br />and be in force thirty days after its <br />final passage. <br />The above and foregoing ordinance <br />was duly introduced at a meeting of <br />the Board of Trustees of the city or <br />1 Newport Beach held on the 26th day <br />.of May, 1924, and passed at a n:ee.t- <br />ing thereof held on the 2nd day of <br />June, 1924, by the affirmative vote <br />of the following named a(embers of <br />the Board of Trustees thereof: <br />AYES, Trustees, Geo. P. Wilson, H. <br />C. Sloan, Fred W. Young, Conrad <br />Richter, L. S. Wilkinson. <br />NOES, Trustees, none. <br />ABSENT, Trustees, none. <br />The above and foregoing Ordinance <br />No. 258 having been duly passed by <br />the Board of Trustees this 2nd day <br />of June, 1924, is hereby signed and <br />approved by me. <br />GEO.
