HomeMy WebLinkAbout655 - Probationary Appointees• ORDINANCE 655 AN ORDINANCE ELIMINATING RESIDENTIAL REQUIRE- MENT OF PROBATIONARY APPOINTEES TO THE FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS UNTIL 90 DAYS AFTER THEIR PERMANENT AP- POINTMENT; AMENDING SECTION 2401 OF THE MUNI- CIPAL CODE, AND ADDING SECTION 2401.1 TO THE MU- NICIPAL CODE. The people of the City of New- port Beach do ordain as follows: SECTION 1: Section 2401 of the Municipal Code is h e r e b y amended to read as follows: "Section 2401. Qualifications for Appointment to the Fire De- partment. Every appointee of the Fire Department at the time of appointment shall be not less than twenty -one years nor more than thirty -one years of age, except that this qualification shall not af- fect the present members of the paid -call list who have been on the paid -call list of the Fire Depart- ment for more than five years prior to the date of adoption of the Ordinance establishing a Civil Ser- vice System for said City. Every appointee however, must possess the physical qualifications pre- scribed by the Civil Service Board (which shall not be inferior to those required for the recruits of the United States Army), and be- fore his appointment must pass satisfactory examinations as may be prescribed by the Civil Service Board. Every appointee must have a high school education or its equi- valent." SECTION 2: There is hereby added to the Municipal Code of the City of Newport Beach, Sec- tion 2401.1 to read as follows: "Section 2401.1. Within 90 days from his permanent appointment to either the Fire or Police De- partments, such permanent ap- pointee shall establish a bona fide residence within the City of New- port Beach and shall take such steps as are necessary to become a qualified elector of the City of Newport Beach." SECTION 3: This Ordinance shall be published at least once in the Newport Harbor Ensign, a newspaper of general circulation, printed and published in the City of Newport Beach and shall take effect 30 days after its final pas- sage. The foregoing Ordinance was in- troduced at a regular meeting of- the City Council of the City of Newport Beach, held on the 11th day of February, 1952, and was finally passed and adopted on the 25th day of February, 1952, by the following vote, to wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Finch, Ramsey, Greeley, Blue, Isbell NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT COUNCILMEN: None L.
