Section 12.24.080 of the Newport Beach Municipal Code is amended to read: 1112.24.080 Prima Facie Speed Limit -- Thirt -five Miles er Hour. The prima acie speed limit on the of ing named streets or parts thereof shall be thirty -five miles per hour. Superior Avenue. Jamboree Road from Bayside Drive to East Coast High- way. Eastbluff Drive from Bixia Street southerly to Jam- boree Road. Marguerite Avenue from Fifth Avenue to San Joaquin Hills Road." SECTION 2. Emergency Ordinance Effective Immediately. This ordinance is declared to be an urgency measure necessary for preserving the public safety and shall take effect and be in force upon its adoption. The reasons for adoption of this ordinance as an urgency measure are as follows: The segment of Marguerite Avenue between Fifth Avenue and San Joaquin Hills Road which would be made subject to a prima facie speed limit of thirty -five miles per hour by this ordinance was recently opened as a public street. At the present time the only speed restriction applicable to that segment of Marguerite Avenue is the basic speed law which allows maximum speeds of up to sixty -five miles per hour without any prima facie speed limit. Due to the fact that the street is curved and has a steep grade, it is essential that a prima facie speed limit be established as soon as possible after its opening in order to protect the public. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall be published once in the official newspaper of the City. 0 L] This ordinance was introduced and adopted as an emer- gency ordinance at a regular meeting of the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 13th day of March, 1967, by the following vote, to wit: AYES, COUNCILMEN: Roger--, Marshall; Gruber, Cook, Forgit, Shelton NOES, COUNCILMEN: None ABSENT COUNCILMEN Parsons 2,
