AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF NEWPORT BEACH
AMENDING SECTION 11.24.020 OF THE NEWPORT
BEACH MUNICIPAL CODE PROHIBITING THE USE OF
SPEAR GUNS ON PUBLIC PIERS
The City Council of the City of Newport Beach DOES
ORDAIN as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 11.24.020 of the Newport Beach
Municipal Code is amended as follows:
"No person shall use, possess or control any spear,
spear gun, arbalest or any similar device in or on: (a) The
waters of Newport Bay; (b) In or on the waters of the Pacific
Ocean, within 50 ft. of any swimmer, bather or surfer; (c) On
the beaches; or (d) On any public or private pier or dock
within the City of Newport Beach. This section does not prohibit
possession of a spear or arbalest at any location in the City if
_ the point of same is completely sheathed and guarded.
SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall be published once in
the official newspaper of the City, and the same shall be effec-
tive 30 days after the date of its adoption.
This Ordinance was introduced at a regular meeting of
the City Council of the City of Newport Beach held on the 22nd
day of November, 1982, and was adopted on the 13th day of
December, 1982 by the following vote, to wit:
AYES, COUNCILMEMBERS Cox, Maurer, Hart,
Heather, Strauss, Hummel, Plummer
NOES, COUNCILMEMBERS None
ABSENT COUNCILMEMBERS. None
