A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
. OF NEWPORT BEACH ESTABLISHING AN AD HOC
COUNCILMANIC.REDISTRICTING COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, Section 1005 of the Newport Beach City
Charter requires the City Council every four (4) years to
appoint a committee to study the advisability of redistricting
the City; and
WHEREAS, 1979 is the fourth year in sequence since
the adoption of the Charter,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Newport Beach hereby appoints the following
three (3) Councilmen as the Ad Hoc Councilmanic Redistricting
Committee:
1. Councilman Donald Strauss
2. Councilman Paul Hummel
3. Councilman Jacqueline Heather
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Committee is charged
with the following duties and responsibilities:
1. Preparation of a reapportionment plan with alterna-
tives on establishing district boundaries which as nearly as
practicable constitute natural areas of contiguous and compact
territory;
2. Preparation of a reapportionment plan which will
create districts containing roughly equal numbers of people in
order to provide fair representation on the City Council; and
3. Report back to the City Council with alternative
proposals for redistricting the City consistent with this
Resolution.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said Committee shall
automatically go out of existence at such time as the City
Council adopts an ordinance changing and redefining the
boundaries of any or all of the seven councilmanic districts
or on September 30, 1979, whichever occurs first.
