A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF NEWPORT BEACH SUPPORTING THE DESIGNATION
OF THE SANTA ANA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CON-
TROL BOARD AS THE 208 AGENCY FOR THE SAN
DIEGO CREEK DRAINAGE BASIN
WHEREAS, the Southern California Association of
Governments (SLAG) adopted a 208 Plan for San Diego Creek
which the Newport Beach City Council could not support; and
WHEREAS, the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality
Control Board recommended to the State Water Resources Control
Board that the SCAG- adopted South Coastal Area 208 Plan not be
certified; and.
WHEREAS, the State Water Resources Control Board did
not certify the Newport Bay element of the South Coastal Area
208 Plan; and
WHEREAS, the State Water Resources Control Board
formally gave notice of its intent to commence proceedings which
would lead to de- designation of SCAG for nonpoint source control
planning for the Newport Bay watershed,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Newport Beach
City Council hereby recommends that the State Water Resources
Control Board designate the Santa Ana Regional Water Quality
Control Board to assume the task of 208 water quality planning
for the Newport Bay region.
ADOPTED this 28th day of August 1979.
