THE PROCESS:
• Call for Artists opened on March 9, 2015 with a submission deadline of
May 1, 2015
• Request for Proposals was disseminated through multiple public art
networks, California Arts Council, and directly to artists and galleries
• 81 submissions received from 43 states, 2 foreign countries; 43 from
California; 8 from Orange County; 1 from Newport Beach
• Initial online voting by judges selected 26 finalists
• Judging Panel met on May 21, 2015 & selected 10 + 4 alternates
• Arts Commission met on June 11, 2015 & approved 10 works to
recommend to City Council for installation

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Artistic Merit:
• Artwork is of high - quality and demonstrative of originality and artistic
excellence
• Artist has strong professional qualifications
Durability:
• The artwork is made of high - quality materials which can withstand the
natural outdoor elements of coastal Southern California
• Artwork requires minimal to no maintenance
Practicality:
• Artwork is of appropriate subject matter for audiences of all ages
• Artwork is safe and shall not exhibit unsafe conditions or factors that may
bear on public liability
Site appropriateness:
• Artwork is suitable in scale to be seen in environment
• Artwork is suitable for viewing from all angles
• Artwork will be an appropriate addition to the current collection
