I -14 <br />POLICY STATEMENT FOR PARK LAND ACQUISITION <br />The City Council- adopted Recreation & Open Space Element for the <br />provision of neighborhood park sites throughout the community is <br />identified in the Park Dedication Ordinance. To meet the needs of <br />the present and projected populations of the City of Newport Beach, <br />it will be the policy of the City Council to acquire park lands <br />whenever practicable. <br />In addition, it will be the policy of the City Council to preserve <br />and acquire view sites, and to' implement the adopted Master Plan of <br />Bicycle Trails. <br />It will also be the policy -`of the City Council to accept dedication <br />of open space lands subject to individual merit review of the following <br />criteria: <br />1. Other open space in the immediate area; <br />2. Aesthetic factor - does the property afford a unique <br />view or access; <br />3. <br />4. <br />5. <br />6. <br />7. <br />Quality and quantity of public input; <br />Potential public injury from alternative usage; <br />Populdtion segment to be served by the space; <br />Willingness and ability of local property owners <br />to accept care and maintenance; <br />Unique environmental or ecological factors. <br />This policy is adopted in an effort to meet the recreational needs of <br />the citizeds of Newport Beach and to provide open space for the environ- <br />mental imppovements of the City of Newport Beach. <br />Adopted August 21, 1972 <br />Amended November 11, 1974 <br />Amended February 14, 1977 <br />Amended November 27, 1978 <br />Amended November 14, 1983
