It hurts our neighborhood and harms West Newport Beach, because it removes
existing affordable housing from West Newport Beach available for entry level workers and young families and replaces
it with restricted housing.
How can the City of Newport Beach attract Lifeguards, Firemen, Police Office, Sanitation Workers, Restaurant workers or
city employees if there is no place to live? These 12 units are the most affordable housing in West Newport Beach as
they stand now. This proposal will remove this much needed affordable housing from the people who our community
needs to access it.
The whole idea of the RFP -15-55 was to create more affordable housing within Newport Beach. This removes 12 units
and replaces those 12 units. The next effect is not zero — it is less than zero, because we will remove affordable housing
needed for entry level employees or civil servants or public service employees from the housing stock of West Newport
Beach.
PLEASE VOTE AGAINST THIS PROJECT AND ASK MERCY HOUSE AND CDP TO MAKE A NEW PROPOSAL WHERE NEW
HOUSING STOCK IS ADDED TO NEWPORT BEACH.
Do not remove much needed affordable housing stock and recycle it into restricted housing stock just to help transfer
tax dollars into profits without public benefit. PLEASE ONLY USE THESE TAX DOLLARS TO CREATE NEW AFFORDABLE
HOUSING IN NEWPORT BEACH.
Thank you
Everette Phillips
206 Walnut St
Newport Beach, CA 92663
